Department of Technology Education

The Department of Technology Education is dedicated to training teachers in the field of technology in middle and high school vocational and home economics subjects. It is offered at only three universities in South Korea, including Sehan University, and has a high employment rate for the national teacher certification exam. Graduates of this department are employed in national and public middle and high schools, as well as private schools, government offices, and businesses. The department also provides education to prepare students for these career paths.
• Educational Objectives:
  • The department aims to foster creative and proactive middle school technology teachers who possess broad general knowledge and sound values, can adapt to the rapidly changing information society and industrial fields, and take responsibility for cultivating talents in the 21st century.
• Specialization Approach:
  • To achieve the educational objectives and excel in the technology education field and related exams, the following specialization approaches are suggested:
  • Ensuring the qualities of educators through dialogue and presentation-based learning between professors and students
  • Acquiring fundamental knowledge of information society and specialized skills in information basics, programming, multimedia utilization, and internet technology (ICT teaching methods)
  • Acquiring necessary technological skills in the field of technology education through theoretical and practical experiments and on-site training (teaching-learning design and methods, evaluation, career guidance, scholarships, research projects, practical training, etc.)
  • Acquiring brainstorming and simulation methods for creative thinking and problem-solving
  • Enhancing the abilities of educators through autonomous seminars and extracurricular programs
  • Ensuring the qualities of educators through humanities lectures and character education
  • Individual counseling and guidance for acquiring various technical certifications and preparing for the middle and high school teacher certification exam
• Career Paths after Graduation:
  • Upon graduation, students obtain a Level 2 Professional Teacher (Technology) certification. If they pass the national teacher certification exam for technology education, they can be appointed as technology teachers in national and public middle and high schools. With a Level 2 Professional Teacher (Technology) certification alone, they can also be appointed to private middle and high schools. Additionally, graduates can find employment in industries, government offices, and pursue graduate studies.
  • Employment Status and Private School Appointments:
    As of March 2020, there were 130 successful candidates in the teacher certification exam: 115 in public schools and 15 in private schools, in regions including Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Jeonnam, Jeonbuk, Gwangju, Gyeongnam, Busan, Ulsan, Daegu, Gyeongbuk, and Gangwon (excluding part-time teachers). The number of successful candidates varies each year, with 18 in 2020, 11 in 2019, 9 in 2018 and 2017, 13 in 2016, and 10 in 2015.
