Department of Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is a specialized field of healthcare that aims to provide meaningful therapeutic activities to individuals with impaired function due to physical, mental, or developmental reasons. Through these activities, individuals can perform their daily life tasks as independently as possible and actively participate in social life, ultimately leading to a happy and fulfilling life. The Occupational Therapy Department at Sehan University operates an occupational therapy clinic, a sensory integration therapy room, and an activities of daily living therapy room within the on-campus Health and Welfare Service Center. Under the guidance of specialized professors, students in their second and third years engage in practical training in these therapy settings.

  • To cultivate occupational therapists equipped with the application skills of occupational therapy theory and comprehensive foundational knowledge
  • To develop occupational therapists who approach clients with a fundamental attitude of respect for human dignity
  • To foster occupational therapists who demonstrate high practical efficiency in various occupational therapy environments

  • Cultivating practical-oriented talents through the Health and Welfare Center
  • Assessment and treatment of center participants, education of clients and their guardians
  • Diverse center user groups including adults, children, and school-age children
  • Volunteer work at dementia-related facilities
  • Group therapy for enhancing cognition, activities of daily living, and social skills in dementia patients
  • Medical consulting for facilities serving children with disabilities, providing information on developmental stages and medical advice on intervention and environmental modifications
  • Collaboration with Local Government:
    -Promotion of occupational therapy through Dementia Awareness Day
    -Department promotion and dementia assessments for community members on –Dementia Awareness Day
    -Evaluation and certification for dementia-related cognitive assessments required in the community (SNSB, CERAD-K, etc.)
• Career Paths:

Graduates of the Occupational Therapy Department can pursue various career paths and obtain national licenses through the national licensing examination for occupational therapists, which is available exclusively to department graduates. Possible career paths include:

  • Hospitals (general hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals and clinics, psychiatric hospitals, child psychiatry clinics, elderly care hospitals)
  • Welfare institutions, health centers, dementia support centers, specialized dementia hospitals
  • Special education schools, early childhood special education classrooms, facilities for children with disabilities, education support centers under the Education Office, kindergartens
  • Vocational rehabilitation institutions, centers for promoting employment of people with disabilities
  • Occupational therapy research institutes (neurodevelopment research institutes, child development research institutes, rehabilitation research institutes, assistive technology centers)
  • Graduate schools and overseas employment opportunities
    -The outlook for occupational therapy employment is very promising due to the increasing demand for occupational therapists resulting from the rapid increase in chronic adult diseases such as industrial accidents, traffic accidents, elderly population issues, diabetes, stroke, dementia, and cancer.
