The Lingyan County Foreign Residents Support Center, which is operated by our university on behalf of the government, successfully held an "Experience and Talent Donation Service for Winter Pickled Cabbage" event for foreign residents from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 22.
This event aims to help foreign residents better integrate into Korean life and is divided into three segments. The first segment is introduced by the Population and Youth Policy Division of Seongnam County Office on the origin and preparation methods of kimchi; the second segment involves hands-on experience in making pickled vegetables; the third segment organizes participants to taste the kimchi they have made paired with cooked meat. The event not only provides foreign residents with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Korean traditional culture but also promotes mutual exchange and understanding among people of different nationalities through kimchi making and neighborhood sharing. The kimchi made during the event is distributed to neighbors, further conveying the warm neighborhood spirit of Korea. This event adopts a first-come, first-served registration method through SNS promotion and word-of-mouth dissemination.
In the future, to better assist foreign residents in settling in South Korea, the center will continue to organize and conduct a variety of adaptive activities. A foreign resident who participated in the activity said: "Being able to make delicious kimchi together with everyone at the center and then taste it with cooked meat is truly an unforgettable experience. I hope there will be more such activities in the future." Jung Doo-beop, the director of the Lingyeong County Foreign Residents Support Center, also stated: "We hope that this activity will serve as an opportunity to help foreign residents in Lingyeong County better adapt to life in South Korea and take root in Lingyeong County. In the future, we will be more committed to improving the well-being of foreign residents."
