Sehan University (President Choi Mee-Soon) and the Jeollanam-do RISE Project Group (Leader Kang Jeong-il) won the Top Prize in the 2025 Living Lab Project Competition held on February 4, 2026.

The competition aimed to share the outcomes of university living lab initiatives conducted through regional collaborative projects at the city and county levels, while promoting innovative community-based practices through public exhibitions.

The event brought together approximately 50 participants, including representatives and evaluators from six universities in the western region of Jeollanam-do.

Sehan University currently offers specialized programs in the Departments of Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Sports Rehabilitation, along with regionally integrated courses designed to cultivate comprehensive healthcare professionals capable of addressing local health promotion needs.

In addition, the university operates the “Sehan University Home Care Project Group” and the “Human Care Professional Training Project Group.” By leveraging its accumulated expertise and human resources, the university has developed sustainable health promotion and integrated care programs that provide high-quality services to the local community.

In 2025, Sehan University implemented several flagship programs, including the “Resident Education Program for Senior Managers,” “Home-Based Health Promotion and Integrated Care Project,” and “Village-Level On-Site Health Promotion and Integrated Care Services.” Through these initiatives, the university delivered more than 150 health and welfare services to local residents.

At the same time, through resident-participatory Living Lab project activities, the university evaluated both the effectiveness and limitations of its health promotion and integrated care services.

In particular, the Living Lab activities systematically collected user-centered feedback from local residents. This process enabled the university to assess service outcomes and identify areas for improvement. Based on the needs and challenges identified by residents, Sehan University successfully designed a sustainable community healthcare model, ultimately earning the Top Prize.

Kang Jeong-il, leader of the Sehan University Jeollanam-do RISE Project Group, stated, “Through the 2025 Living Lab project, we strengthened resident participation, enhanced community collaboration, and laid the foundation for greater acceptance of future health promotion and integrated care policies. We will continue to incorporate residents’ feedback to develop and improve programs that address the specific needs of the region.”

[Special Feature] “A Choice to Prepare for the Future” — Beginning a Four-Year Journey at Sehan University

https://eng.sehan.ac.kr/?kboard_content_redirect=191

The criteria for choosing a university are changing. In the past, many students focused primarily on a university’s reputation or size. Today, however, greater emphasis is placed on personal development after graduation. Students increasingly ask themselves: Who will I become in four years? What experiences will I gain, and how will I grow into someone capable of facing future challenges?

As industries evolve at an unprecedented pace, the nature of work continues to change. Universities are no longer simply places for acquiring knowledge; they must also serve as environments that actively prepare students for their future careers. As a result, education that combines theory with practical experience—allowing students to apply what they learn and produce tangible outcomes—has become increasingly important.

In response to these changes, Sehan University has implemented major-focused specialized education, clearly highlighting the strengths of each academic discipline. Its colleges and departments maintain close connections with industry and professional fields, designing curricula that naturally link students’ four years of study with their career pathways after graduation.

■ Teacher Education Programs — Building Classroom Experience Over Four Years

Sehan University’s teacher education programs—including the Departments of Special Education, Technical Education, and Early Childhood Education—closely integrate theory with practice.

Beginning in their first year, students participate in observation practicums that go beyond simple field visits, serving as the first step toward becoming professional educators. Over time, they gain experience through assistant teaching, curriculum design, and classroom instruction, gradually developing the ability to understand and respond to real educational environments.

The Department of Special Education has produced top scorers in the national elementary special education teacher certification examination for two consecutive years, demonstrating the department’s strong academic and professional training.

The Department of Technical Education strengthens students’ technical and educational competencies through engineering fundamentals training and Capstone Design projects.

Meanwhile, the Department of Early Childhood Education has achieved outstanding results in public kindergarten placements through a stage-based practicum system.

The greatest advantage of these programs is that students are prepared not only for certification exams but also for real classroom environments, enabling them to accumulate practical teaching skills early and develop into capable future educators.

■ Health and Medical Programs — Practical Training in Simulated Clinical Environments

Sehan University’s Departments of Nursing and Physical Therapy cultivate professional competencies through practice-oriented education.

State-of-the-art simulation centers and clinically linked internships provide students with training environments that closely replicate real healthcare settings. As a result, the experience gained during their studies becomes a valuable foundation for confidence and competence after graduation.

The Department of Nursing has been selected for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Internship Support Program and maintains a graduate employment rate exceeding 83 percent.

The Department of Physical Therapy operates a systematic clinical education program that provides employment opportunities at university-affiliated hospitals in Korea while also expanding pathways for overseas careers.

A distinctive feature of these programs is that learning and practical experience occur simultaneously, achieving a seamless integration of theory and practice.

■ Aviation Programs — Preparing Students for Careers in the Sky

Sehan University’s Departments of Aviation Operations and Aviation Services offer specialized programs closely aligned with the global aviation industry.

The Department of Aviation Operations serves as a university pathway into Korean airline pilot training and provides international opportunities through a dual-degree program with the Florida Institute of Technology. Through phased practical and theoretical training, students gradually develop from aviation students into professional pilots.

The Department of Aviation Services cultivates practical workplace competencies through interview-focused training and AI-based service simulation courses. Graduates employed by domestic and international airlines demonstrate the effectiveness and potential of the program.

The core philosophy of these programs is that university life is not merely a time to prepare for dreams, but a time to actively pursue and realize them.

■ AI Convergence Department — Interdisciplinary Education for Future Industries

In an era defined by rapid digital transformation, Sehan University’s AI Convergence Department offers interdisciplinary education connecting web comics, gaming, AI content design, big data, and computer science.

Rather than focusing on a single specialty, the program aims to develop students’ comprehensive capabilities across multiple fields.

Through project-based courses, students gain hands-on experience addressing real industry challenges and build personal portfolios that transform academic knowledge into tangible achievements. Increasing numbers of students are securing employment in related industries, demonstrating the effectiveness of this educational model.

The AI Convergence Department is not only a place to learn technology but also a space where students develop the ability to design and shape future industries.

■ Department of Sports and Welfare Integration — Career Development Through Regional Collaboration

Sehan University’s Department of Sports and Welfare Integration—comprising the Department of Welfare Management and the Department of Human Services—combines professional certification preparation with field-based internships to deliver practice-centered education.

The department has achieved a 100 percent pass rate for the Level 2 Social Welfare Worker and Lifelong Education Instructor certification examinations, reflecting its strong educational management system.

Through collaborative projects with regional institutions, students gain valuable on-site experience. Participation in the RISE Lifelong Education Hub Center further promotes community-based lifelong vocational education.

The department emphasizes not only individual career development but also the importance of growing together with the local community.

“Disciplinary Competence Equals Personal Potential”

President Choi Mee-Soon stated,
“University competitiveness begins with strong academic disciplines. We support students in accumulating meaningful practical experiences during their studies so that they can confidently enter society upon graduation.”

Sehan University’s achievements are reflected in its outcomes: top scorers in national certification examinations, graduate employment rates exceeding 83 percent, a 100 percent certification pass rate, global dual-degree programs, and project-based courses closely connected with industry.

Yet behind these numbers lies each student’s four-year journey of growth and development.

Ultimately, choosing a university means envisioning who you will become four years from now. Sehan University demonstrates that promise through meaningful experiences and tangible outcomes.

Sehan University reaffirmed its commitment to cultivating members of its academic community into global talents capable of leading future society.

Sehan University Launches Four Major Educational Infrastructure Facilities, Accelerating the Development of Practice-Oriented T

https://eng.sehan.ac.kr/?kboard_content_redirect=189

On March 3, Sehan University held an inauguration ceremony at its Yeongam Campus for four new facilities: the Sehan Physical Training Center, the Lifelong Education Research & Learning Zone, the Nursing Department Simulation Center, and the Nightingale Lounge. The opening of these facilities is part of the university’s mid- to long-term strategy to expand its educational infrastructure in order to enhance students’ competencies, promote cooperation with the local community, and cultivate practice-oriented professionals.

The Sehan Physical Training Center, located on the first floor of the gymnasium, is a professional sports training facility equipped with science-based training and analysis systems. Through body composition analysis equipment and personalized exercise programs, the center will be open not only to students and faculty members but also to local residents, creating an open health service platform. In particular, the center will be integrated with sports-related academic programs and practical training, serving as a hub for nurturing application-oriented talent with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The Lifelong Education Research & Learning Zone, located on the first floor of the Welcome Center, was established as part of the Jeollanam-do RISE Project and serves as a customized learning space for adult learners. The area is equipped with multifunctional learning facilities such as individual focus study pods, small collaborative study tables, and a mini presentation zone, creating a comprehensive learning environment. The university plans to use this space to strengthen a “learning continuity structure,” enabling students to continue independent research and in-depth learning even after completing their formal coursework.

The Nursing Department Simulation Center, located on the third floor of the Health and Welfare Building, is a state-of-the-art practical training facility completed in November of last year. Based on this facility, the university is actively preparing for the fourth-cycle accreditation evaluation for nursing education.

The center includes specialized simulation laboratories covering the full spectrum of nursing education, including adult nursing, maternal and newborn care, pediatric nursing, geriatric nursing, community nursing, and psychiatric nursing. It is also equipped with a digital observation and feedback system. The entire training process is managed through data and designed to enable repeated practice under conditions that closely replicate real clinical environments.

In addition, the “Nightingale Lounge,” established alongside the center, is a dedicated learning and communication space for nursing students. The space is designed to foster professional identity and strengthen a sense of community, serving as a central hub for activities such as team-based learning, self-directed study, and faculty mentoring.

Sehan University President Choi Mee-Soon stated, “The opening of these facilities is not merely an expansion of infrastructure but a strategic investment aimed at responding to the rapidly changing educational environment of the future. We will continue to optimize the educational environment and systematically strengthen students’ practical competencies, moving beyond a theory-centered teaching model.”

Looking ahead, Sehan University plans to organically integrate regional community health promotion programs, customized lifelong learning models for adult learners, and future healthcare professional training systems. Through these initiatives, the university aims to develop a comprehensive educational model encompassing health, lifelong learning, and future medical education.

The opening of these four major educational infrastructure facilities is expected to serve as a key milestone in strengthening the university’s educational competitiveness while expanding its contributions to the regional community.

On May 8, 2025, the Sehan Volunteer Group of Tangjin Campus of our school carried out the second round of "New Plane Plogging Volunteer Service Activity". The activity was successfully carried out from 10 am to 12 am in the New Plane area for two hours.

This volunteer service aims to cultivate young talents with good character and innovative consciousness, encourage teachers and students to practice the spirit of volunteering with practical actions, and enhance their communication skills and sense of social responsibility.

During this activity, teachers and students of our school walked and cleaned up the street garbage, using practical actions to beautify the community environment and promote the concept of green life. Everyone had a clear division of labor and coordinated cooperation, which not only improved the public health environment, but also narrowed the connection between the school and the local society.

The Sehan Volunteer Corps has always been committed to the principle of "experiencing the value of life and practicing character education," dedicated to cultivating innovative talents with strong service awareness who can integrate into communities. This Plogging activity, jointly organized with the community, not only demonstrated the sense of responsibility of our volunteer corps members but also further expanded the path of cooperative practice between universities and local areas for mutual benefit and prosperity.

In the future, Sehan Volunteer Corps will continue to use diversified public welfare activities as a bridge and actively contribute their youth to regional development.
